Pep Guardiola's agent says Chelsea will have to wait until next season
Pep Guardiola will not be joining Chelsea yet, according to his agent. Josep María Orobitg insisted that the former Barcelona manager hasnot yet made a decision about his future and will not even begin to think about potential clubs until January at the earliest. Guardiola has taken a year's sabbatical in New York and has no intention of returning before he originally planned.
Roman Abramovich would like Guardiola to take over at Stamford Bridge following the dismissal of Roberto Di Matteo but the Russian will have to employ another coach at least for now. Any hopes that Chelsea's owner may have had of persuading the Catalan to accelerate his decision were immediately undone by the coach's representative.
Orobitg told the Brazilian website Lancenet : "Pep Guardiola will not decide anything before January. I was with him in New York a fortnight ago and he told me that until January or February he will not decide if he is goingto go back to coaching and which team he will choose."
He continued: "It does not matter what happens [in the meantime], before that period he will not make any decision about any club or national team."
Orobitg added: "Pep will make the decision himself, he has thepersonality to do that. He is with his family right now, resting, reading, enjoying his hobbies, watching football andin January he will start to think about what team he could be at next season."
