42 Killed, 100 Missing In Borgu Boat Mishap

One hundred and fifty persons were feared dead on Friday following a boat mishap in River Niger, close to Malilli village in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The accident happened at about 2 pm. While 42 bodies were recovered and confirmed dead, over 100 others are reportedly missing.

ASUU Vows to Continue Strike, says VP Sambo Brought Nothing New to Negotiation

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has insisted that its members will not suspend their 3-month-old strike until the federal government meets its demand.

The university lecturers have been on strike since June 30 demanding that the government honours a 2009 agreement it had with the union and a 2011 Memorandum of Understanding signed over the agreement.

NASU may Join ASUU Strike Next Week

As strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the nation’s tertiary institutions enters its fourth month, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has indicated its resolve to embark on its own indefinite strike next week.

Speaking at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the trade union in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Tuesday, NASU’s general secretary, Prince Peters Adeyemi, said members of the union had not been paid for two months, despite working to keep university system running during the ongoing ASUU strike.
