Presidency debunks first lady’s alleged illness

The Presidency, on Monday, debunked reports that First Lady Patience Jonathan has been hospitalised abroad. Spokesperson to the first lady, Ayo Osinlu, said Jonathan did travel abroad, but that she was only away to take a “moment’s rest” given that she has not taken a rest since President Jonathan’s election last year. “If you look at her itinerary in August, you will be wondering how she was able to accomplish that,” he said. “In the course of this week she will be back home. But remember, it all depends on her plans.” The Nigerian social media scene was agog over the weekend with reports that the first lady had to be flown to a German hospital following suspected food poisoning.
