Cynthia's Death: Police Make Two More Arrests

The police have made two more arrests in connection with the gruesome murder of Cynthia Osokogu. The police also recovered a white Blackberry phone, which belonged to the deceased, from a business man in Port Harcourt, who allegedly bought the stolen phone from Cynthia's killers. The police identified one of the suspects as Nonso Ezike, the younger brother of Chidera Olisaeloka, one of the suspects already paraded in court. Nonso claimed to be a graduate of Mathematics and Computer Science from the Federal University of Technology Owerri and a second-hand phones' dealer at Ladipo Market, selling phones stolen by the internet fraudsters. Following his arrest, Nonso allegedly admitted to have sold Cynthia's phone for N68,000 after buying it from his bother for N42,000. "It was Chidera who sold the phone to me. He said the phone belongs to our cousin, Okwumo. I later sold the phone to a man in Port Harcourt for N68,000," he told police in a statement. The other suspect was identified by the police as Gideon Okechukwu, 39, a driver for the gang. The suspects were arrested by police officers attached to Area E Police Command in Festac Town, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Dan Okoro. ACP Okoro credited the latest arrests to "electronic policing". Okoro said that he got in contact with the person in possession of the phone via the Blackberry messenger after getting the phone pin from Cynthia's family. "During the course of our chatting, I got to know that the person with the phone is at Port Harcourt," he said. "I told him I need the phone and he told me he bought it from Lagos and the phone was sent to him via courier and he was willingto return it to the person who sold it to him. He said he would like to get his money for the phone back and I told him there isno problem." Continuing, Okoro stated that the phone was returned to Nonso, who later brought it to the police station in company of his lawyer. "On September 3rd, two men came to my office with a white Bold 5 99100 Blackberry phone. Immediately, I told my men to detain them and they were interrogated so that was how we got to know that Nonso is a brother of one of the suspects, Chidera Ezike, that we arraigned," he added. The police alleged that the other suspect, Okechukwu, was the driver conveying the suspects to their various destinations. The State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko said Okechukwu was assisting the police with theirinvestigation. The police also recovered a black Compaq 610 laptop belonging to Okwumo Nwabufo, who has also been arraigned in court in connection with Cynthia's murder. The laptop was said to contain over fifty photographs of nude female victims, who had fallen prey to the internet sex ring. Some of the photographs show pretty ladies tied with rope and their mouths covered with cellotape with dangerous objects inserted in their privates. Cynthia's naked photographs also show bites and wound inflicted allover her body. Manko assured that the police would not relent until all the suspects involved in the case were arrested. He also warned phone users to desist from buying stolen phones,adding that the suspects would be soon be arraigned in court.
