Zambia team bus attacked following win against South Africa
Two boys aged 12 and 13 have been taken into custody for the attack, which happened as Zambia departed Johannesburg's Soccer City on Wednesday, following a 1-0 friendly victory.
"Very sad that Zambian bus was stoned and Kennedy Mweene sustained a head injury. Has had stitches and is ok, but the incident was shameful," said a tweet, posted in the early hours of Thursday morning on the Zambian FA's Twitter account.
South African Football Association spokesman Dominic Chimhavi condemned the attack, which sawbus windows smashed and confirmed a police investigation has been opened.
"We can confirm the incident tookplace and the perpetrators who pelted the Zambian bus, two young boys, were confined by police," Chimvani said. "They are inpolice custody.
"Safa does not condone this behaviour. The match was played in honour of Nelson Mandela and these people are not welcome at our stadiums. They should watch the games at home.
"People come to the games with their families and this behaviour is not acceptable. It is not in the spirit of Fifa's fair play policy or the Nelson Mandela Challenge."
