Gunmen kill policeman, commercial driver in Lagos.
Suspected gunmen on Sunday, killed a police officer and a commercial bus driver in Lagos.
The gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers, were said to be fleeing from the police when they opened fire on a commercial bus at Ikeja-Along bus-stop around 2.45pm.
In the commercial bus with registration number, XQ 336 EKY, were the driver, a police officer, seated in front passenger seat and other passengers.
Both the driver and the police officer reportedly died instantly, while some other passengers sustained injuries, when the threegunmen double-crossed and shot at occupants of the bus repeatedly.
Two Rapid-Response Squad (RRS) patrol vehicles arrived at the scene too late.
By the time they arrived the scene,the gunmen had escaped while passers-by and motorists scampered in all directions to avoid being shot by the fleeing robbers, who kept shooting their way through the chaos.
A policeman, who requested anonymity, said the gunmen wereprobably angry about a robbery attempt foiled by the police.
It was gathered that the team of RRS officers later conveyed the deceased and injured passengers to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
Lagos Police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident, but added that the identities of the policeman and the driver were yet to be ascertained.
She also said that the police were on the trail of the gunmen and expressed confidence that they would soon get arrested.
