Photo Journalist brutalized by LASUTH staff

A photo journalist, Benedict Uwalaka, was today beaten to stupor for taking pictures during the releases of bodies of the Dana Airplane crash victims at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). Uwalaka who is a staff of Leadership newspaper was with other journalists at the event and all were at the receiving end of a pandemonium that broke out when officials of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and relatives of the crash victims accused them of taking pictures of the morgue. Bottles, knives, bricks and daggers flew around and Walaka sustained a cut which bled so profusely that some journalists later said they thought he would bleed to death. A witness at the scene of the incident recounted that Uwalaka was rushed to the hospital with blood gushing from his head. While asking for his camera that was seize, a clip monitored on channels TV showed a staff of the hospital hit the veteran photojournalist with a bottle, leaving the pieces all over his hair. No action is yet to be taken by the law enforcement agent as at the time of this report.
