60 Reportedly killed, Several Injured in Kano Bomb Blast

Latest report filling in from kano revealed that at least 60 people were killed in the bomb blast which occurred in New Road Motor Park in Sabon-Gari, Kano yesterday, March 18. According to reports, Boko Haram members approached different schools in Maiduguri, Borno State and killed 4 teachers and injured others, including students, hours before the bomb explosion. The bomb blast destroyed several buses. Policemen and soldiers cordoned off the scene right afterthe tragic incident. A number of injured people have already been taken to various hospitals in the city. Ohanaeze Ndigbo Kano Chapter Chairman Chief Tobias Idika statedthat the records passed to him show that more than 60 people got killed and 5 luxury buses got burnt. According to a rescue official (name withheld): “This is the worst experience of the Igbo in Kano; we have lost over 60 souls, while five buses were burnt to ashes. These show that we have always been the target of the attacks. IEDs were kept inside a luxurious bus which was about to leave Kano for Lagos. People were flying like chickens here and you know there were somany people in the bus when the IEDs exploded. I saw three buses on fire. One of them was fully loaded with passengers waiting to leave the station at the time of the blasts. Atthe moment there are a lot dead, ican’t tell you the figures now.” According to the residents of the area, the explosion occurred at a bus station in Kano City on Monday, March 18, and caused panic and injuries to the bystanders. The Joint Military Taskforce confirmed the incident. Military Outfit Spokesman Captain Ikediche Iweha said, “we have moved in to the scene of the blast and we are trying to restore confidence to forestall looting.” “We have invited men from Fire Service Department to put off the fire triggered by the blast and dozens were down by the impact of the blast. Our priority now is to secure the area and we do not have the casualty figure because we have not started counting. Investigation has commenced on the incident and that will reveal what happened, and how it happened,” Iweha explained. Kano is one of the northern cities that are repeatedly attacked by the notorious Islamist group BokoHaram, killing hundreds of people in Nigeria since 2009.
