Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kill two in Yobe

At least two persons were killed in an attack by gunmen suspected to be members of Islamic militant sect Boko Haram, on the outskirts of Damaturu town in northern Nigeria. The attackers killed Modu Bura (30) and Ahmadu Ali (39) and alsoburnt down a primary school, a Sharia court and a police post in Giniri village of Damaturu. "They were killed in their houses and the other villagers had to flee to the bush," said Toyin Gbadegeshin, Yobe state police spokesman. According to the spokesman, gunshots were still being heard around some other surrounding villages near Damaturu. Boko Haram has been waging a sustained war in Nigeria's northern cities in their bid to install an Islamic emirate in the country. Earlier this month, a Boko Haram suicide bomber had killed eight persons at a police checkpoint in Damaturu. In January, the sect attacked the city of Kano killing over 180 people. The oil rich African country, with apopulation of 150 million, is equally divided among Christians and Muslims. The Muslims are mostly found in the north while the Christians have their majority in the South.
